John L. “Corky” DeMillion of West Chester

John Louis “Corky” DeMillion, 74, of West Chester, died on July 30, 2003 at the Chester County Hospital, West Chester. Born on August 25, 1928 in Monessen, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John L. Sr. and Ruth Fohner DeMillion.

He was a Professor of Health at West Chester University until his retirement in 1985 following a 30-year career in education, including serving as Supervisor of Health and Physical Education at Belle Vernon Area School District. He established the Pennsylvania School Health Association, an organization dedicated to the teaching of health in the public schools. He was also a talented and accomplished gymnast and gymnastic coach.

He served in the United States Marine Corps in WWII and Korea, and was a member of the All Navy Gymnastic Team. His hobbies included antique clock repair and woodcrafts.

He is survived by his wife Frances Giannetti DeMillion of West Chester; two sons, John A. DeMillion of Glenmoore and Barry DeMillion of San Francisco, California; two daughters, Joan DeMillion of West Chester and Marcy DeMillion of St. George, Utah; two brothers, William DeMillion of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Vernon DeMillion of Monessen; and two sisters, Beulah Carlson of Monessen and Dolly Gaudio of Monessen.

He was a member of the Marine Corps League, the VFW, and the American Legion. He served as Vice President of the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Retired Faculties (APSCURF).

Relatives and friends are invited a funeral mass at 10am, Monday, August 4 at St. Agnes Church, 233 West Gay Street, West Chester, preceded by a visitation at 9am. There will also be a visitation Sunday, August 3 from 3-5pm at the DellaVecchia, Reilly & Smith Funeral Home, 410 North Church Street, West Chester, 610-696-1181. Burial will be at the Bradford Cemetery in Marshallton.
